This came out a while back, but I thought it kind of relates to a potential future topic:
I think it will be interesting to see how all this evolves. While some people love Apple and think that compared to other giants (read: Microsoft) they are angels, I think they are really good at trying to protect their turf. This might be a big fight, because this might pit a lot of people that are fans of open source and interop technologies against Apple.
Supreme courts rejects Lexmark's petitionI find this interesting because of what is brewing at Apple. Some reports have indicated or speculated that one way Apple plans to prevent people from running will be by enforcing the software to only run on specific hardware. That limitation would be purely artificial, and would most likely be protected by some kind of encryption. And anyone who says encryption to protect something usually means DMCA, etc.
